Boulder Paddle Season Wrap-Up 2020

When the season began, we weren't sure how it would go, but you all played a role in making it a great year! So thanks to each and every one of you. I'm also super grateful for Bob Z's work helping with the league. You're the best Bob!

Congratulations to Brock!

Congrats to Brock Borman who took the title with the highest points this year. Although both he and Curt Corrigan have finished on Court 1 each of the past 6 seasons, this was Brock’s first win during that time. Brock was also the only player to stay on Court 1 consistently this whole season. He joins an elite group of consistent winners – only Curt Corrigan and John Fasullo have stayed on Court 1 for a full season since 2014 -15.

Blackjack Award

Andy Smith and Sam McKee tied for the most 21’s this year – winning all three sets in one match (Blackjack). Both had SIX sweeps. Connor Corrigan was only one behind, with 5. Curt, Brock and Steve Richter each had 4 Blackjacks. Overall this year, one player won all 3 sets (Blackjack) in a match only about 40% of the time -- while one person lost all 3 sets about 60% of the time.

Upward Mobility Award

The winner of the “Upward Mobility” award is Adam Bather who joined us in week 11 on court 7 but won his way up to court 1 in week 19, ending up on court 2 at the season‘s end. Another Chicago native, Kenny Harvey was another first-year show-off, holding court one for 18 of 21 weeks ending up in 3rd place on total points.

Most Improved Award

“Most Improved” congrats also to Don Martin who finished in 10th place on points this year, up from 15th last year and 19th the year before. Improved cage-work, great serve, quick hands and a really strong forehand were instrumental to Donnie's solid year.

Love of the Game Award

Not many players have had their love for this game drive them to build a court in their own backyard. But that is exactly what Ken Romanzi did this last year earning him the Love of the Game Award. Also, big thanks to Ken for his willingness to host some league matches. What a guy!

Good Sport Award

This award recognizes the player that demonstrated good sportsmanship and the ability to make people laugh on the court. This year's honors go to Paul Whiteside who despite his mediocre play :) managed to bring a smile to just about everyone! We love you Paul!

Clutch Sub Award

This award recognizes the player that stepped up and answered the call when needed to save the day! Thank you to Zach Newman for answering the call and being an all-around classy guy.

Tough Guy Award

Our champ Brock Borman wins this coveted award again proving that shoveling really does help your paddle game! :) This award recognizes the individual that showed grit, clearing the most snow off the paddle courts.

Congrats Everyone!

And finally, congrats to the entire league – Total games won per person was up 3.4% from the previous high in 2018-19. And aside from the last week's snow out, almost every other delayed match was eventually played. Now that is dedication!

Also, out of 168 matches, there were ZERO no-shows this year which is the first time that has ever happened! This speaks to what a great group you are and what this sport means to all of us. Not everyone gets a trophy but you all deserve an award for making this harsh Covid winter much better than it could have been!
