In Memory of Brock Borman

We are celebrating his life in many ways but...

Here we wanted to showcase his humorous artwork.

BrockToughGuycollage

In 2019, after winning the Tough guy award for shoveling the most amount of snow off the courts, Brock wrote this message to everyone:

"Once again, it was a wonderful year of platform tennis. Topped off with a great party and award ceremony. And although the past season seems like a distant memory, and the next just a dream . . . We will all hopefully be back in the cage before you know it. Until then, maybe keep this as a screen saver (of me) to inspire you. With effort, a good broom & shovel, you too can achieve the level I've acquired. No doubt there is an undeniable genetic component, but nothing is more important than being a good try-er. Keep looking up because I'll be smiling down at you. Together we clear all that comes down, no matter how deep it can get."

A note from Brock asking for help with the regrit of the North Boulder courts.

"Hey Gang,

When the moon is the seventh house

and Jupiter aligns with Mars.

Then peace will guide the planets

And Love . . well Boulder Paddle will get

new grit and lights as bright as the stars..."

Brock valued his friends tremendously. Evidence is this letter, or sermon, as he called it :)

Brock's Paddle Sermon:

As we have ALL experienced, our paddle evenings together can be the full range of emotions between delight and despair. One week we're shaking hands thinking we've finally figured this game out — and the next week we're driving home wondering if flippin life has any meaning. Our league brings us closer together and is a wonderful weekly excuse to both laugh and grimace while playing outside, under the lights with friends.

Inevitably there will be ups and downs... So many things are out of your control. Net tapes fall FOR and AGAINST you, you or your partner can fault games away, it can start to snow and drop to 10 degrees, or that Taco can come back to haunt you. :) ... Remember that the season is a marathon... and beating yourself up each week is not worth it. Accept the full range of victories and defeats, and enjoy it all.

Although we agree that winning is a common goal, let's share the common goal of maintaining good relationships. It's easy to forget the evening is more than just YOU getting the most points. It's also about 3 others being glad YOU were there.

-- Be a winner, be a loser, but most of all. Be a friend.

Here's something to think about by someone much more smarter than me:

"lt is your response to winning and losing that makes you a winner or a loser." Harry Sheehy
